Restore an iPhone without updating iOS (standard procedure)

Obviously you have never noticed but the iPhone includes a function that allows you to reset iOS without updating it, just go to the settings of the operating system and select the appropriate item that is in the “General” menu. The procedure involves deleting all data on the device , so before putting it into practice make a backup of the iPhone as I explained in my guide dedicated to the topic.

Once you have backed up your “melafonino”, go to the Settings menu of iOS (the gear icon located on the home screen), select the item General from the latter and go to Restore . Then presses on the item Initialize content and settings , type in the unlock PIN and confirms your willingness to reset the iPhone by “tap” on the Initialize iPhone button .

The smartphone will reboot and after a few minutes the initial configuration procedure of the iPhone will start. During this procedure you can decide whether to set your “iPhone” as a new phone , restore a backup from iTunes or iCloudor import data from Android (option available only on iOS 9.x). Once you have finished the initial configuration of the device, go to the menu Settings> General> Info and check the version of iOS installed on the latter: it will be the same as you had before the reset. Happy?

Restore a jailbroken iPhone without updating iOS

If you want to restore iPhone without updating iOS  and using a jailbroken device, try Cydia Impactor . This is a free tweak that allows you to reset iOS and remove the jailbreak without updating iOS. It works very simply, but at the time of writing it is only compatible with iOS versions from 8.1 to 8.4. Actually there is also a beta version compatible with iOS 9 , but it could still be quite unstable and therefore should only be used in cases of real emergency.

Even Cydia Impactor, as well as the standard reset procedure of iOS, delete all the data on the phone, so before using it provide a backup of the iPhone as I explained in my guide on the subject.

As soon as you are ready to go into action, start Cydia , select the Search tab located at the bottom right and look for Cydia Impactor . Pigia then on the icon of the tweak in the search results and install the latter on your iPhone by “tap” first on the Edit button located at the top right and then on the items Install and Confirm .

When the operation is complete, select the Cydia Impactor icon from the iOS home screen, select the delete all data item, unjailbreak device located at the bottom of the screen that opens and presses the Delete all button to start the restore procedure. iPhone.

A white screen will appear with a progress bar and a list of all the files the tweak is deleting from the phone. You do not move a finger until the procedure is completed, ie until the iPhone restarts. It should take about 10 minutes. If on the screen of the “iPhone” appears a warning about the lack of memory space, ignore it, it is normal.

When the iPhone is restarted you will be presented with the initial iOS configuration procedure; procedure by which you can choose whether to set your “iPhone” as a new phone , restore a backup from iTunes or iCloud or import data from Android (option available only on iOS 9.x).

Mission accomplished! Now you have an iPhone reset, no more jailbroken but with the same version of iOS, so with the ability to repeat the jailbreak at any time. Make good use!
